Sweater School 3: Drop Shoulder and Cables w/ Sarah

If you’ve enjoyed Sweater Knitting 1 & 2, or knit a few garments on your own, it’s time to level up your skills and learn some new techniques in Sweater Knitting 3 with Sarah!
In this 7 week (6 lesson) class students will learn:
- Top down, drop shoulder sweater construction.
- A unique cabled stitch pattern.
- How to increase and decrease in a textured stitch pattern.
- How to pick up stitches for a sleeve.
- How to pick up stitches for a neck band and knit a double folded neckband.
This advanced knitting class does require some time intensive homework to stay on track. Please reference the class outline below.
Please note that this is not a beginner class. Students should have already completed Sweater School or completed a simple sweater or knitted garment project(s) on their own.
Class Outline:

Week One - Review gauge swatches, determine size, cast-on back panel, (homework: complete back panel).

Week Two - Begin first front panel, (homework: finish first front panel).

Week Three - Begin second front panel, (homework: finish front panel).

Week Four - Join in the round and begin working body, (homework: finish body of sweater except bind off).

Week Five - WEEK OFF

Week Six - Italian Sewn Bind-Off, neck band, start sleeves if time allows, (optional homework: start sleeves).

Week Seven: Work on Sleeves, (homework: finish sweater!).
Ages 18+
Skill Level: Advanced
Advanced classes are the most advanced of our lessons, for students who are eager to master more difficult techniques with some assistance. Students in each craft will need to have previously completed several projects on their own.

Class prep:
- Before class students should buy their yarn, and make a gauge swatch - the instructor will work with students remotely for assistance with this part. When signing up for this class, please make sure to use a current email address.
- Students will also need to purchase all supplies and have their yarn wound into cakes before class.
- The pattern will need to be printed or students should be prepared to read the pattern on a digital device.
Materials (not included, but all classroom materials purchased at Sew To Speak receive a 15% discount):
- Ballard Pullover pattern by Sari Nordlund, available here. Note: If you don’t have a Ravelry account or don’t want to make one, you can purchase and print your pattern at the shop.
- Amount of DK weight yarn specified for your size in the pattern. We recommend Lore by Neighborhood Fiber Co.

Needles:
- US 2.5 / 3mm Circular Needles, 16” for the neck ribbing
- US 2.5 / 3mm Circular Needles, 32” for sleeve cuff ribbing and hem ribbing
- US 4 / 3.5mm Circular Needles, 12-16” for the sleeves
- US 4 / 3.5mm Circular Needles, 32” for the body
- Please note: Needle sizes may need to be adjusted to make gauge.
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- 6 Stitch Markers
- At least 4 need to be removable stitch markers
- Cable Needle
- Waste Yarn or Stitch Holding Cords

Class Cancellation Policy
Please note on our cancellation policy for multi-week school classes - ie: Sewing School, Quilt School, Knitting & Sweater Schools, Garment Schools:
- Class cancellations made within four weeks of the class start date cannot be refunded, credited, or rescheduled.

If you must miss a class in a series, please contact the instructor for make-up options. The instructor may request that you schedule a private lesson in order to catch up or finish your project. Private Instruction fees are $35-$60 per hour.
