Yay, you’re exploring our classes — we’re sew happy you’re here! Whether you’re a lifelong maker or just finding your groove, we have a class for you! Our class levels for kids and adults at Sew to Speak are True Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced (adults only), and we’ve explained them all here. Adult Classes (18+)

True Beginner

No skills needed! These are great classes for beginners with no previous experience or for those who’d like to refresh their skills.

Advanced Beginner

These classes are designed as “next step” classes to build basic skills. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines and sewing simple projects. Knitting Students must be comfortable with casting on, knitting, and purling. Crochet students must be comfortable with chaining and single and double crochet.

Intermediate

These classes are suited for makers who have taken 2–3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues. Knitting & Crochet students must be comfortable with basic stitches within their crafts, reading simple patterns, and troubleshooting simple mistakes.

Advanced

These classes are the most advanced of our lessons, for students who are eager to master more difficult techniques with some assistance. Students in each craft will need to have previously completed several projects on their own.

Kids' Class Levels (Ages 8–17)
