You've mastered Sweater School and you're ready to tackle new techniques - join Rachael for Sweater School 2! In this 8 week (6 lesson) class, students will learn:
- Short rows.
- Working a raglan flat, rather than in the round.
- A unique lace increase pattern.
- Tubular cast off.
- How to pick up stitches to build a button band and neckline ribbing.
- How to knit buttonholes and attach buttons.
This advanced knitting class does require some time intensive homework to stay on track - please reference the class outline below. Students should have already completed Sweater School or completed a simple sweater or knitted garment project(s) on their own.
Before class students should buy and wind yarn, and make a gauge swatch - the instructor will work with students remotely for assistance with this part. When signing up for this class, please make sure to use a current email address.
Ages 18+
Skill Level: Advanced
Advanced classes are the most advanced of our lessons, for students who are eager to master more difficult techniques with some assistance. Students in each craft will need to have previously completed several projects on their own.
Class Overview:
Week 1: Begin yoke, while learning short rows. Little homework this week.
Week 2: Begin unique stitch increase pattern as we continue our yoke.
Homework: Complete the yoke of your sweater.
Week 3: No class. Continue finishing the yoke of your sweater.
Week 4: Seperate the sleeves and begin the body of your sweater.
Homework: Continue working on the body of your sweater through the ribbing. Do not cast off.
Week 5: No class. Continue finishing the body of your sweater.
Week 6: We'll learn the tubular cast off, and how to pick up stitches to build your button band.
Homework: Finish cast off and button band.
Week 7: Begin neckband.
Homework: Finish neckband.
Week 8: This class is optional - a refresher in how to pick up the sleeves of your sweater using the magic loop method. You'll then finish the sleeves of your sweater at your leisure.
Class Prep:
- Purchase and print pattern, the Felix Sweater by Amy Christoffers (Savory Knitting) - please purchase online. https://www.ravelry.
com/patterns/library/felix- cardigan - Purchase and wind yarn.
- Make a gauge swatch (instructor will send detailed instructions prior to class).
Supplies (Not included, but all supplies purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% discount):
Garment sizes are 39 (43.5, 48, 52.5, 57)" bust, around chest at underarms. Garment is recommended to be worn with an ease of 2-8". This is a very boxy fit cardigan, so making true to bust size is also an option for a closer fit.
- Recommended yarn: Quince & Co Osprey, Bread & Butter Everyday, or &Make Aran, or most aran weight yarn. 700 (800, 900, 1000, 1100) yds needed, depending on sizes above. Questions about choosing the correct size? Your instructor will be available to answer questions prior to class.
- Needles:
- US 10/6mm circular needles on 24", and 32" cords (or size needed to make gauge).
- US 8/5mm circular needles on 24" and 32" cords (or size needed to make gauge).
- Note: Larger sizes and those who prefer more slack for magic loop may also prefer 40" cords. An interchangeable needle set is not required, but recommended if you have one.
- 6 Buttons: 20mm
- Barber Cords, or waste yarn.
- Closed stitch markers, at least 4 (for raglan increases).
- Locking stitch markers, at least 6 (for marking button holes).
- Darning needle, measuring tape, scissors.
