Sidney Sweatshirt w/ Anita
Material:
Description
Want to make a boxy sweatshirt that goes together quickly and easily using your serger (or sewing machine)? Anita will walk you through each step of making the Sidney Sweatshirt pattern by Merchant and Mills.
During this class you will cut out your pattern and sew your pieces together all in one session. This cozy pattern is gender neutral, easy to fit and has matching or contrasting rib trim. To get the structured boxy shape of Sidney, choose a medium to heavy weight sweatshirt fabric, jersey, or cotton jacquard. Stretchy ribbing is best for the trim but any knit fabric could be used for your trim.
Don’t have a serger? No problem! We have some available for you to use during class.
Ages: 18+
Class Level: Adult Intermediate
Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues.
*Unsure if you’re ready for an Adult Intermediate class? Email info@sewtospeakshoppe.com to discuss your skill level!

Class Prep:
- Purchase and wash your fabric
- Purchase the pattern in PDF format, available here. When purchasing, make sure to chose your correct size range. You are welcome to print the instructions or you can just have them available as a download on your phone
- Print your pattern. We recommend sending the AO (copy shop) version of your PDF to me@mixedethically.com. They will send you an invoice over email and deliver the printed pattern to the shop for you. Please make sure to allow a few days before class for your pattern to be printed and delivered. If you have any questions about obtaining and printing your pattern please email the shop at info@sewtospeakshoppe.com
Supplies (not included, but all class materials will receive a 15% discount when purchased at Sew To Speak):
- Sidney Pattern by Merchant And Mills (you cannot get this at the shop, you must purchase it online and have it printed before class, please see above).
- Main fabric: Choose a medium to heavy weight cotton, Jersey Knit, jacquard or fleece. We can help you select the right fabric for this project at the shop (see pattern for amount needed, according to size). Please note this pattern runs quite large. If you want a more fitted look you’ll want to size down 1 or 2 sizes. You can also compare the finished measurements listed on the pattern to a top you already have in your closet to get a sense of what size you will want to make
- Rib or stretch knit for the trim. If using rib knit in a tube please get an extra 1/4 yard. We can help you locate and match your rib knit at the shop- it’s a little tricky to find!
- Thread to match your fabric
- 2.5 yards pattern/tracing paper (available at the front counter at the shop)
Other Supplies needed:
- Rotary cutter or scissors
- Pins or fabric clips
- FabricMarking pen
