Learn to Gather: Ruffle Pillow w/ Nat

In this beginner-friendly class, Nat will teach you step-by-step how to sew a pillow and master the art of gathering with easy tips and tricks. Whether you’re new to sewing or just looking for a fun project, this class is perfect for you.

Ages 18+

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner classes are designed as “next step” classes to build basic skills. Sewing students must have taken Sewing 101 and/or be comfortable threading their machines and sewing simple projects.

If you need help with your machine or a sewing refresher- Nat is available for ½ hour private lessons ($20) Please email to schedule.

Class Prep:

• Purchase and pre-wash fabric
• Cut two pieces of fabric using cutting instructions below. Be mindful of directional prints on fabrics! If new to sewing, we do recommend using non-directional fabrics for this project. 
  • Pillow body: Cut 1 piece - 19" x 19"
  • Pillow body: Cut 2 pieces - 12" x 19" 
    
  • Pillow ruffle: Cut 1 piece - 6" x WOF

Supplies (not included, but students will receive a 15% discount on class supplies purchased at Sew to Speak):

• Main Fabric: 3/4 yard
• Ruffle fabric: 1/2 yard

Note - if you are using the same fabric for both, you will need one cut of fabric that is 1 1/4 yards. 

• 1 pillow form (18" x 18”)
• Matching thread color, and bobbin (please wind before class)
• Sewing machine needle - Size 10-12

Cotton fabric is recommended. Any of Sew to Speak's quilting cottons are great choices.
