Quilting School w/ Allison

Interested in quilting but not sure how to start? Quilting School will give you all the skills you need to sew your own quilts, from picking fabric to styles of quilting and more! 

At the end of the class you will have completed a modern lap quilt with fabrics of your choice, using the Star Lap Quilt from the book Quilt Big: Bigger Blocks for Faster Finishes, which you can purchase along with other supplies at Sew to Speak. 

Ages 18+

Skill Level: Intermediate

Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues.

Supplies (Not included, but all materials will be purchased during class. Students will receive a 15% discount): 

• For fabric, you’ll be working with four colors of your choice for the quilt design: 
  - Color 1 (purple): 1 ½ yds
  - Color 2 (dark blue): 1 yd 
  - Color 3 (light blue): ½ yd 
  - Color 4 (white): 1 ½ yds
  - 3 yds backing fabric 
• Batting: 1 ½ yds batting or enough for a 50” x 50” square.
• Binding: 5 ¾ yds of pre-made binding (or ½ yd if you’d like to learn how to make binding).
• Matching thread
• Book: Quilt Big: Bigger Blocks for Faster Finishes
  

Optional Notions: (These tools are great if you have them, but if not, the shop will have these available during class.)

• Measuring tape
• Pins
• Scissors or rotary cutter
• A fabric marker/chalk
• Seam gauge
• Seam ripper
• Sewing machine if you have one 

Class Cancellation Policy

Note: For the following multi-week school classes - Sewing School, Quilt School, Crochet School, Sweater School, Garment School:

• Class cancellations made within four weeks of the class start date cannot be refunded. We will issue a class credit for a later class with this same instructor.

• Class cancellations within 48 hours of the class start date cannot be refunded, credited, or rescheduled.
