Knitting Lace 101 with Isabel

Join Isabel to learn the fundamentals of lace while knitting the elegant Poet Scarf by Sari Nordlund. With a few new techniques, you’ll watch beautiful lace patterns emerge and gain the confidence to tackle even more lace projects.
In this class students will learn how to:
- Knit lace patterns flat
- Read a chart to knit a lace pattern
- Use ssk, ssp, p2tog, k2tog, k2tog,and yarn overs to knit lace
- Use M1R and M1L to knit gradual increases
- Knit an i-cord edge.
Students will leave the class with all of the skills you need to knit the Poet Scarf, including a helpful video to support students in finishing their scarf.
Class Level: Intermediate
Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues.

Class Prep:
- Purchase supplies, and wind yarn (Sew To Speak staff can help with this).
- Purchase and print the Poet Scarf pattern (available on Ravelry or directly from the designer) prior to the first class. If you do not have a Ravelry account or access to a printer, you can purchase the pattern from the staff at the front counter of the shop
Supplies (Not included in the cost of this class, but all materials purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% class discount):
- 225 m / 246 yards of fingering weight yarn and 225 m / 246 yards of lace weight yarn (such as Malabrigo Mohair, Kelbourne Woolens Harmony, or Farmer’s Daugher Oh Dang!)
OR
246 yards of DK weight yarn - US 4 (3.5 mm) needles with a cable of at least 24” (60 cm)
- 3 Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
