Introduction to Pattern Hacking w/ Brittany
Material:
Description
Welcome to pattern hacking! This class is designed to introduce you to the fundamental concepts of how to adapt and alter sewing patterns to change their style or functionality.
Sewing patterns are a great starting point for creating beautiful, personalized garments, but you don’t have to stick to the pattern. Maybe you love part of a pattern, but the functionality just won’t work for your life. Maybe there’s no pattern out there that matches your vision. Or maybe you just want to reduce your consumption. Pattern hacking can help you get the most out of your garment sewing patterns and tailor them to your own unique style and needs.
Students will learn how to:
- Differentiate between pattern adaptations for style, construction, and fit.
- Read technical line drawings and identify pattern components.
- Identify adjoining and intersecting seams and order of operations.
- Translate a creative idea into practical steps for adapting patterns using the principles of subtract, add, divide, and multiply.
You will not sew a garment in this class. Instead you’ll learn a set of principles and steps for altering the style and functionality of garment sewing patterns.
