Description
Already know how to knit and purl and ready to tackle a beginner garment project? Join Rhonda to make your first shoulder capelet, the Malin Capelet, from Knitwear Designer Annette Aue, using one of our very favorite soft, colorful yarns.
The following skills will be covered during this class:
- Figuring out sizing
- Setting up a pattern
- Knit Purl pattern changes
- Keeping track of where you are in a pattern
- German Cast on
- Using a life line
- Decreasing
- Purl bind off
- Wet blocking
Please note that this is a 3 week class with an optional 4th class for finishing techniques, and that some knitting will need to be completed between classes.
Ages 18+
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Advanced Beginner classes are designed as “next step” classes to build basic skills. Knitting Students must have taken Knitting 101 and/or be comfortable with casting on, knitting, and purling.

Class Prep:
- Purchase supplies and wind yarn.
- Download pattern, The Malin Capelet, available here. Bring your pattern to class in your preferred format, either printed or digital. If you don't have a Ravelry account or a printer, we can help you at the shop.
Supplies (not included, but students receive 15% off when you purchase supplies at Sew to Speak):
- Malabrigo Rios, 416 - 547 yards. Please check your size in the pattern to select the right amount of yarn and check with shop staff if you’re not confident about calculating the amount of yarn you’ll need- we are happy to help!
- Knitting needles: 16" Circular, Size US 8
- Darning needle
