Intermediate Botanical Embroidery w/ Mary Lee

Learn to layer an embroidered design with a variety of stitches and materials to make an intuitively-stitched botanical scene with interesting colors, textures, and movement. Students will experiment by stitching with floss, several weights of perle cotton, crewel yarn and ribbon from the class set of materials. Feel free to bring needles and threads from your own stash if you choose.

Participants will learn to stitch with ribbon and how to add beads, sequins, and colonial knots for added interest.

Prerequisite classes: Scrappy Stitch Journal, Clothing Embellishment, or comparable personal embroidery experience. Please note that this is not a beginner class and is not appropriate for students without prior embroidery experience. 

Ages 18+

Class Level: Intermediate

Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own.

Supplies (not included, but all materials purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% discount): 

• 1 7” embroidery hoop
• 1 copy of the book Foolproof Freeform Embroidery by Jennifer Clouston, available at Sew To Speak.
• 1 pack of clover gold eye embroidery needles
• 1 pair of small sharp embroidery needles or snips
• Needle threader and reading glasses if needed
  

Shared Supplies for this class includes: 

• All threads, ribbons, and flosses for use during class, but students are also welcome to bring their own. 
• Fabric square background.
