Description

Up your crochet skills with granny squares! This class will focus on granny square basics, through three different patterns: the Classic Granny, Solid Granny, and Sunburst Granny.

This class will focus on the squares themselves, not an overall project, but we will discuss seaming options and finishing techniques. Take your squares and knowledge and work them into the granny square projects of your dreams, like blankets, wraps, tops, tote bags, and more!

Students will learn working in the round, how to change colors, treble crochet, puff and cluster stitches, and three seaming techniques. We will learn a different square each week.

Ages 18+

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner classes are designed as “next step” classes to build basic skills. Crochet students must have taken Crochet 101 and/or be comfortable with chaining, single and double crochet.

Students will learn: Granny square construction, increasing, special stitches, working in the round, special seaming techniques, changing colors.

Supplies (Not included, but students receive a 15% student discount on all supplies purchased through Sew to Speak):
  • Yarn: Worsted or Aran category 4 weight yarn. We recommend Bread & Butter Everyday, or Malabrigo Rios. Please avoid using novelty yarn (like fur or fringe) or dark color yarn, as it can be difficult to see your stitches while learning. Bring as many or as few colors as you'd like, but for the squares pictured in our sample photos, we used 5 skeins of yarn in Brooklyn Tweed Tones. This is also a great stash busting class if you have left over yarn from past projects.

The sample in our photo was made with 5 skeins of Bread & Butter Everyday, in colors Wild Raspberry, Baby Frog, Lantana, Coastal Redwood, and Jade.

  • Hook: US H / 5mm or US 7 / 4.5mm hook (if making the pillow sample)
  • Students will also receive all information in a pattern designed by our teacher, included in the cost of the class.
