Description

Learn how to make your sewing patterns fit you - before you even start sewing. In this class, skilled patternmaker and sewing instructor Nat Della Selva will guide you through essential fitting techniques, including:

  • Choosing the correct size
  • Understanding ease
  • Performing a Full Bust Adjustment (FBA) or Small Bust Adjustment (SBA)
  • Moving or reshaping darts
  • Adjusting rise and length
Bring a pattern you've made or plan to make and get one-on-one guidance to tailor it to your body. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of fit and the confidence to adjust future patterns on your own.

Ages 18+

Skill Level: Intermediate

Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues.

Class prep: Bring a pattern (and pattern instructions that include the size chart) you would like to adjust, AND/OR bring in a garment you have made, and want to make again, but need to make adjustments on.

Supplies (not included in the cost of this class, but students will receive a 15% discount when purchased at Sew to Speak):

  • 1-2 yards Tracing paper (To trace off your adjustments to your pattern, total amount dependent on your pattern)
  • pencil or pen
  • soft measuring tape
  • pins
  • paper scissors
