Description

We love this Le Triangle Shawl by Aimee Gille - it's such a simple and joyful make! Mix and match colors however you'd like. Choose a collection of yarn minis or yarn scraps and go random, or work 2-3 skeins in an even pattern, it's up to you.

In this month long class students will learn...

how to crochet a half granny square, and work a granny stripe pattern.
center out shawl construction.
changing colors and tips for weaving in yarn ends.
a scalloped border.

... and will experience working with a lighter weight yarn.

Class Outline:

Class 1 - Students will learn a half granny square and granny stripe pattern. Color planning will be discussed, along with tips for weaving in yarn ends. Homework: Continue working the body of the shawl.
Class 2 - Students will continue to crochet together, ask questions and receive feedback. Homework: Continue working the body of the shawl.
Class 3 - In this one hour finishing lesson, students will learn the pattern's scallop edge border and discuss blocking techniques.

Ages 18+

Skill level: Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner classes are designed as “next step” classes to build basic skills. Crochet students must have taken Crochet 101 and/or be comfortable with chaining, single and double crochet.

Students who have taken Skill Building: Granny Squares will be most prepared for this class.

Supplies (materials are not included in class cost, but students will receive 15% discount on class supplies purchased at Sew to Speak):

For a full sized shawl, choose at least 1200 yds fingering weight yarn. This would equal 3 full skeins of fingering weight yarn, or choose 1-2 full skeins with a handful of mini skeins. We recommend Coates & Co. Sock and Sock Minis, Kelbourne Woolens Perennial and Perennial Minis, or Malabrigo Sock and Sock Minis. (Note: Students can choose to make a smaller shawl if they'd like. If so, at least 800 yards will be needed. Our shop sample is 10 rows shorter than the pattern recommendation, and was made with 1 skein and 1 mini bundle of Coates and Co. Sock.)
