Classic Button-up Shirt in a Weekend w/ Isabel

Join us for a hands-on sewing experience with the Jenna Button-Up Shirt, designed to elevate your skills and leave you with a versatile, polished garment you’ll wear again and again.

Over the course of this class, you’ll explore every detail that makes a classic button-up shine — from crisp collars to perfectly set cuffs — and you’ll learn how to apply new garment construction techniques with confidence.

Skills taught in this class:

• Constructing a folded button placket.
• Sewing a tower placket and traditional shirt cuff.
• Assembling and attaching sleeves and a collar.
• Creating an enclosed back yoke using the burrito method.
• Finishing your garment with topstitching, flat felled seams, and an optional hem gusset.
  

Ages 18+

Class Level: Intermediate

Intermediate level classes are suited for makers who have taken 2-3 Advanced Beginner classes in their craft, and/or have made several projects on their own, and are feeling independent in their skills. Some classes may include pre-class prep to be completed on your own. Sewing students must be comfortable threading their machines, following a seam allowance, changing presser feet, and troubleshooting minor machine issues.

Class Prep:

• Please have your fabric pre-washed and pressed and pattern pieces cut directly out of the fabric.
• Your instructor, Isabel, will send an email a few weeks before class with information on fabric and some helpful hints to help you prepare for the first class. 
  

Supplies (Not included in the cost of this class, but all materials purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% discount):

• 3 to 4 yards of light to medium weight wovens and shirtings, depending on the size you select.
• ½ yard fusible interfacing (woven mid to lightweight for a softer effect or crisp non-woven interfacing if you would like a sturdier cuff or collar)
• 12 shirt buttons, 13-15 mm wide
• Matching thread

You will also need to bring:

• A machine with buttonhole capabilities (please call the shop ahead of time if you need to use one of ours during class)
• A buttonhole foot
• Pins
