Quilted Arrowwood Tote w/ Cait & Rebecca

Expert quilters, Cait and Rebecca, are the designers behind local pattern shop The June Thimble!

The Arrowwood is a tote that marries quilting and bag making techniques, Yes please! Come learn beginner-friendly basics such as quilting with your domestic machine, binding raw edges, inserting zippers, and more! More advanced students will perfect their points, stitching, and hardware application

Students will complete the Arrowwood Tote Bag by The June Thimble with optional patchwork customization with either a Sawtooth Star block or patchwork squares. Students are welcome to bring any other 6-12" finished block of their choosing to customize their panels!

Session 1: Preparing and Quilting Tote Panels - Those who do not finish quilting in class will need to finish between classes.
Session 2: Assembling the Tote Bag

Skill level: Confident beginner sewist. Students should be able to thread their machine and sew simple projects. No quilting experience necessary.

Ages 18+. 

Class Prep: Students must purchase the pattern and decide on their tote design prior to class, as fabric requirements differ between options. Students should also purchase the necessary supplies (below). No other pre-class preparation is necessary.

Supplies (Not included in the cost of this class, but all materials purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% discount): 

Material requirements:

• Main Fabric:
  - Whole cloth/no modification: 1 yard
  - Sawtooth Star: 1 yard + fat quarter of accent fabric for the star
  - Patchwork Squares: 3/4 yard + one charm pack for the squares (or 40 5” squares)
  - Any other customization: 1 ½ yards
  
• Lining Fabric: 1 1/2 yards

Additional supplies:

• Fusible Foam Stabilizer: 3/4 yard (at 58” wide)
  - Recommended foam: Bosal In-R-Plus double sided fusible foam
  - Other option: Pellon Flex-Foam (FF79F2)
  
• 1 1/2” webbing: 3 1/2 yards (124”)
  
• Zipper: Two 10” or longer zippers with one zipper head each, or 20" zipper by the yard + two heads.
  
• 1 1/2” Rectangle ring: 4 rings
  
• 1 1/2” D-ring: 1 ring
• Other Required Supplies:
  - Sewing machine with ¼” foot or appropriate adaptation required
  - Zipper foot recommended
  - Walking foot recommended
  - Marking tools of your choosing (shop provided some)
  - Sewing clips or large pins (shop provides some)
