Join us as we make a Heart Shaped Zipper Pouch with @andrea1creates- perfect for organizing little goodies in your purse, for knitting and crochet notions, little gift holders and more!
You'll learn how to make a fully lined heart shaped bag, install a zipper with tab ends, and a clever seam technique for enclosing raw edges. Students should have good knowledge of their sewing machine, including sewing straight lines, curved lines, seam allowances, threading and changing presser feet.
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 7” H x 7.5” W
Skill level: Adventurous beginner, must be comfortable using your machine and have sewn several projects before. This can be your first zipper project!
Ages 18+.
Class Prep: Please obtain all supplies and wash and press fabrics prior to class
Supplies (Included in the cost of this class):
- Pouch pattern, so that you can make more hearts on your own!
Supplies (Not included in the cost of this class, but all materials purchased at Sew To Speak will receive a 15% discount):
- Fabric: 2 coordinating prints ¼ yard each or 2 fat quarters of quilting weight cotton ( 1 for exterior, 1 for lining and zipper tabs)- optional to use a 3rd fabric for the zipper tabs however they require only about 1.5” x 10” of material.
Small scale prints such as florals, polka dots or other random, non directional prints work best. - Cotton batting such as Pellon Natural 100% cotton batting ¼ yard.
- 1 x 7” zipper-nylon teeth, no metal or chunky plastic please.
- Optional: embellishments such as narrow ribbon (that will fit through the pull) for the zipper pull and buttons for the front of the pouch.
- Sewing needle for sewing on button.
Other:
- 1 spool of coordinating thread.
- Sewing machine with regular and zipper foot ( Sew To Speak can provide a machine if needed)-make sure you have your cord, pedal, bobbin and needle to be able to use during class.
- Helpful but optional supplies: zipper foot (may be possible to use a regular foot to attach the zipper), water soluble marker, paper scissors, point turner or something to push out seams. Sewing needle for sewing on buttons.
