Want to get started with quilting but not sure how to start? Quilting School will give you an overview of quilt history; styles of quilting (including traditional, improv, modern, and art); color theory; and more!  At the end of the class you will have completed a quilted pot holder and a modern lap quilt with fabrics of your choice.   We will use The Mary Quilt pattern by Kitchen Table Quilting, which is included in the cost of the class!

Teacher: Rachel Wallis

LEVEL: Advanced beginner - You must know how to thread and use your machine and sew in a straight line. Sewing 101 is our suggested prerequisite.

Age: 16+


Week 1 - History of quilts and styles of quilting.  Make sample blocks 
Week 2 - Make potholders out of sample blocks 
Week 3 - Color theory, picking/buying fabric, cutting and piecing lap quilt blocks
Week 4 - Piecing/squaring up quilt top
Week 5 - Basting and quilting
Week 6 - Binding  

Supplies: Quilt pattern and supplies for sample potholder are included in the cost of the class.  All materials needed for the quilt will be purchased during class on Week 3.  Students receive a 15% discount!

Optional Notions: (These tools are great if you have them. The shop will have these available for your use during class)

  • Measuring tape
  • Pins
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • A fabric marker/chalk
  • Seam gauge
  • Seam ripper
  • Sewing machine if you have one
