Description
In this class you will learn how to sew a t-shirt! We will go over serger basics and learn tips for sewing with knit fabrics. You will leave class with your very own t-shirt and the skills needed to make many more on your own.
Ages 18+
Skill level: Confident beginner - Must know how to use your machine and have some experience with using a pattern. Serger use is encouraged and can be learned in class
Class prep:
- Cut out paper pattern in your size
- Prewash and iron fabric
Teacher will send an email 1 week before class to give tips on selecting your size and choosing fabrics.
Supplies needed (Supplies are not included in the class cost, but students will receive a 15% discount on class supplies purchased at Sew to Speak):
-Megan Nielsen Rowan pattern OR Thread Theory Woodley Tee pattern - both are available at Sew to Speak, the Thread Theory pattern is a PDF and will need to be printed before class
We will be making the short sleeve crewneck version
view A (Rowan), and variation 2 (Woodley)
- 1 - 2 yd knit jersey fabric. (check your size on the pattern to determine exactly how much you’ll need)
* If you are making the Rowan pattern - make sure your fabric has a minimum of 40% stretch. As this is a close-fitting t-shirt, you will need a stretchier knit fabric.
You will also need to bring:
-Your sewing machine
-Your serger (call the shop if you need to use one of ours during class)
-Jersey/stretch needles. Sometimes called ballpoint needles
-Twin needle (optional)
-Matching thread color
-2 bobbins
-Pins or wonder clips
