Description

Learn to sew the “Ruby Vest” from Sydney Graham patterns. The perfect Fall layering staple. In this class we will learn the basics of quilting a solid piece of fabric, making and sewing bias binding, and sewing buttonholes. You’ll go home with a cutie-pie vest that all your friends will want :)

Ages 18+

Class prep:

-Download and print pattern. Link to pattern can be found here 
Please ask us at the shop if you don’t know how to print a PDF pattern and we can recommend local printers. You can also print and assemble the pattern yourself at a local library
- Review the size chart (on page 4 of the pattern) and select your size
- Decide which front option you would like to sew. 
(tie front v-neck, tie front high neck, buttoned v-neck or buttoned high neck. All options can also be either cropped or full length.)
- Cut out paper pattern in your selected size and style (not fabric, we will cut our fabric in class)
- Prewash fabric (Wash, dry and iron),

Materials needed (not included in cost of the class, but students will receive a 15% discount on class supplies purchased at Sew to Speak)

-1-2 yards main fabric*
-1-2 yards lining fabric*
-1-2 yards low-medium loft batting
-3-5 ½” buttons if you chose to sew the button front version

For the binding:
-If you choose to make your binding from either your main or lining fabric, factor in an additional 1/2 yard. 
-If you choose to make your binding from a different fabric (not main or lining), you will need an additional 3/4 yard.

* Please review the pattern fabric requirements (on page 6 of the pattern) for the exact amount needed for your size.

Students will need to bring the following supplies:
All supplies are available at Sew to Speak 

-Sewing machine. Please review your machine manual to see if it has the capability to sew an automatic buttonhole. If not, opt to sew the view with the ties.
-½” Bias binding maker 
- Chalk or marking tool
- Sewing machine needles
- walking foot (optional, but helpful when sewing the quilting lines)
- Pins or wonder clips 
- Thread and bobbin
