Description

In this 3-hour class we will make a colorful piece of fiber art while employing the ancient techniques of wool felting and embellishment.

Using wool roving combined with hot water and soap and lots of vigorous rolling the magic starts to emerge. Spanning the course of about 30-45 minutes we'll watch the wool fibers bind and matt into a piece of wool felt. Then choose your favorite autumn leaf pattern and colors utilizing dry needle felting and create the texture and feel of finding that perfect leaf freshly fallen onto your wool felt.

Experience the challenge and fun of watching the magic emerge when you combine elbow grease and the beauty of autumn and leave with a lovely piece ready for framing and gifting or handing on your wall.

The finished piece will measure 5" x 5" and perfect for framing.

Prerequisite skills: Beginners welcome!

Supplies will be provided.
Teacher: Ann Clavin
Fiber has been a part of my life since learning to quilt as a young girl from my grandmother and extending into middle school home economics sewing class. I enrolled in the fiber art department at the University of New Hampshire schooled in fabric design and studying traditional weaving patterns. My family then moved to Ohio, and I continued my education at Kent State University fine art department. The stage was set for the exploration of felt. I fell in love with the feel of fibers and began to make felt which has become my primary medium.
