Indigo Shibori Workshop

$85.00

Join Dr. Janette Knowles, art professor and gallery director at Ohio Dominican University and maker-artist, in this hands-on introduction to the use of indigo with traditional Japanese shibori.  Shibori is an ancient Japanese art form (which dates back to the 8th century) in which cloth is pleated, folded, twisted, sewn, bunched, and manipulated in a variety of ways that impact the way indigo attaches to the fiber.

Participants will learn about the preparation of an indigo vat and about the six main types of traditional shibori techniques; and then create their own traditional shibori yardage!

Participants should wear clothes and shoes that they don’t mind getting stained.

Supplies:
  • 3 yards of white cotton (muslin is perfect) that has been washed with laundry soap in the actual washer and dried in the dryer with NO dryer sheet. Pre-washing in this way is important and will affect the dye process
  • Scissors
