Did you know that art made by women makes up only a small fraction of art on museum walls? That work by women artists sells for less in professional galleries and auction houses? That the work of women artists in history such as Artemisia Gentileschi were attributed to their fathers or brothers or some other male relative? Join art historian Dr. Janette Knowles in this hands-on workshop making a wearable work of art featuring an image of your favorite women artist printed on silk. Bring a needle and scissors and all materials will be provided in a kit for you. You will choose your women artist image a few days before the workshop and that will be included in the kit. Limit to 15 students.
Supplies: Each student will receive a kit including a preprinted custom silk portrait of their chosen artist, a variety of silk and high end textiles and threads, a wool backing, a long piece of leather cording, a metal finding, and a small talisman to place in pouch when finished
Teacher: Dr. Janette Knowles, art professor and gallery director at Ohio Dominican University and maker-artist.
Date: Saturday Feb 26th, 2-4pm
