Description
Fabric becomes form through stitch-work but stitches themselves can be so much more than a technique for keeping material together. This workshop will introduce students to some wonderful historic examples of the artistic and expressive potential of the stitch used as an aesthetic element and practice some expressive mark making using materials from a carefully curated class kit. The final piece will be suitable for framing or used as a decorative pocket, a purse, or an embellishment for the back of your favorite denim jacket.
INCLUDED SUPPLIES:
Each student will receive a variety of naturally dyed fabrics and stitching materials in a variety of cotton, linen, silk, and wool.
STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:
Students should bring a few embroidery needles, a hoop if preferred, and scissors.
Teacher: Dr. Janette Knowles
