Description
Celebrate St. Valentine’s Day with Janette Knowles, head of the Art Department at Ohio Dominican University, by exploring natural dyes used to create that rich and evocative color red! As an added bonus, we’ll use a few stitched shibori techniques on our cloth samples before we dye them in our botanical reds.
INCLUDED SUPPLIES:
Each student will get a kit with fabric samples (many vintage!), stitching thread, various stitched shibori materials such as beads, as well as printed materials about the specific techniques of stitched shibori.
STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:
Students should bring a few needles, pins, scissors, and some threads you want to experiment with (I’ll bring the thread I use most) as well as a pencil to mark your fabric patterns. You’ll need a pair of rubber gloves (disposable ones are fine) and should wear an apron or clothing that may get some red dye on it.
